How some Bengalis will never come back

Why will they come back ?

Bengalis will kick their own butts twice , do a full summersault and stand on their heads for days , cut a finger or two may be, let their wives get raped may be, offer their children to an orphanage may be, before they will come back .

 

Yes that is an astounding statement of people leaving this place and settling else where.

Many of my friends have paid 40-50 lakhs of a single flat somewhere   in  the outskirts of Bangalore r Hyderabad. They never even think of coming , they don’t look back , the next big problem will be the conflict of the local Bengaloreans ,Kannadigas and theBengalis in general.

 

Today , we stopped them coming back , .Nano is no more in Singur, Nano is gone.

Nano was some thing that that the world market was looking at, Wilbur Ross for WL & Ross company NY , on the other day in an interview to CNN IBN clearly spoke of the concern of foreign investors in India ( Singur now represents India ). A reputed and honest company like Tata need not have been stopped, but yes when something like this happens to a company like TATA , foreign investors are fast thinking of receding back  and that is the bare truth,

 

Everyone thinks of earning some more, every one thinks of doing better in life. But somehow  your world changes when you come to this place, This harrowed place, where Raja Rammohan Roy lived, Vivekananda lived , Ramkrishna teached.

 

I am a Bengali and today I accept that we as a community may be thought to be intellectuals, but we are a bunch of hopeless romantics who cannot and should not be given the chance to rule anything. We are a all Pagla Dashus.

Out of work Authors, and also to them who have time and again tried their best to get hold of at least one publish them

 

Do you know why the Bengali authors suffer the struggle all their lives, especially now when any small  author in English is getting the lime light,

 

The sole fact that the people who could read you , buy your books and take the language to the next level are all outside, sitting in Bangalore, (7 lakh Bengalis stay in Bangalore )

There are many more in Pune, in Hyderabad, in Chennai , in Mumbai and in Delhi,

They have Durga Pujas I”n Coimbatore, There are many in Andaman, in short they every where else and not only the poor lower class, who go out in search of better jobs and atleast a square meal in the day.

 

They have Durga Pujas as far as in New Zealand, Search the web and you will find a lot of them, There is no dearth of them. The elite, the literate, the scholars who could give your books the review and the fame you wanted or atleast the respect that you deserve and can command.

They right fully say that that Kishores song “ Yeh laal rang, kab mujhey chorega “

That is the fate, you are soaked in red and red it is will you will meet .

I though have by some sheer fate finally met one of you authors who could make it big. I will soon be posting the poems he has composed here,

Some interesting stuff for Bengalis in Bangalore

Though it is a shame that being in Hyderabad I had to take Tata Sky to get Bangla channels at home whereas  Etv Bangla is produced right there in Hyderabad ( Ramoji Film City )

So much so that most of the time I have flew to Kolkata from Hyderabad I have met people working on the Bengali channel. News readers to many technical people , many of the actors and sometimes with luck, Bengali  actresses, though nowadays every other girl from Bengal has been turning heads here and there.

They rule the south movies industry and after Kajol and Rani Mukherjee, Bollywood is not to be left either.

 

Well, the information that I wanted to talk about, first, I am finding more and more stores in the town ( Bengaluru ) to be selling Anandamela. Don’t know who it was to start it but it was a good business opportunity.  It will revive the magazine which has gone from being in competition to be the best childrens magazine in the country to be a 32 page slim , ad rigged monthly magazine without the creative team behind ( who have packed their bags for other better opportunities again to appease some American company or a better paying job in Mumbai ,

 

Well, the second thing is that more and more towns are slowly getting Bengali channels together with the default packages. These are some of the turning points of the influence and emergence of a new culture in the town. I don’t remember which museum it was, but in one of the museums in New York City I had read about the slow entry and growth of the Jewish culture in the town and how it evolved to be a prominent one by the turn of the century. This is also one of the moments where a southern city like Bengaluru is slowly becoming second home for the huge Bengali  population here.

 

I go out to play here with a bunch of people who had left Bengal 5 to 10 years back  , it was an exodus. All talented boys, some know how to sing, some know how to play the guitar, Some are passionate about writing, some photographers

 

And Some are just cool. They left their homeland a long time ago and the City welcomed them with opportunities. Even if it was then that the government could have understood the importance of the education system it could have made some differences. On the other hand, what govermnet was doing was introducing a CET train , or the so called Common Entrance Test for Karnataka Engg Colleges . So that there is one way to send them out . Farewell it was and no one returned.

 

And if I were to talk of the current times, it is even worse now with colleges getting sold to the junk and the ever important seats of the institutions of knowledge getting destroyed in the process. The trust  is lost, and the alma mater is some thing that people don’t always associate with education. Even if measures were taken  now, could we expect some relief.

I have started to believe her now . She always says “ What good will come of it?” They will fire you any day. May not be anyday . But any fine day after a dry spell. Definitely.

Bhojohori Manna

If you are there in kolkata for a short visit and want to taste everything that you miss outside Kolkata, you may as well try this place.

Kolkata has very few places to talk about in recent times and I came to know of Bhojo hori Manna all the way in New York where a friend of mine was placing all kinds of laurels on it.
Well, you got to believe that Bengalis are good at business ( unlike what the marwari and gujarati community sometimes think ) . It was started by a group of friends Goutam Ghose (a film director), Siddhartha Chaterjee (actor), Siddhartha Bose (Tata group executive-turned-restaurateur), Ranjit Duttagupta (a businessman with a passion for food) and Rajeev Neogi (a publisher).

Actually it has all grown due to a belief that we are big time hoarders. , Funny, the same community that produced, Vivekananda, A brave man who said that the only to fear was fear itself,
it produced more nobel laureates than we could have ever thought of.
They constantly fought together with the Punjabis to get this country out of the British clutches and , they also kept the art and science alive throughout the 20 th century only to end up in a misery where two generations are brooding over their past .
I see people in Kolkata fight all day only to get their next generation some where far away from the hassles of the city.

But the mind that grows in Kolkata will never be able to leave it truly. I am planning to start a online community like orkut , only for Bengalis. Anwesha is one of the government programs to do the same. They are trying to get the Bengali community all around the world to contribute, With prosperity , when your basic needs are taken care of, does come great art.
With hunger in your stomach and a family to support you really dont think of much art do you?

Read this if you are willing to find out about the exodus to the south for bengalis. Well, it is not just people from Kolkata but the other districts in West Bengal too. I myself am a bengali from Agartala and my friends are bengalis from Delhi,Oriss ( Buvaneshwar ) or from Asansol , Durgapur and places like that.
Expatriats I say. Even the office in Banaglore is full of Bengalis who have migrated back from the Silicon Valley in US.

Well, just a curtain raiser this blog is. I will keep writing about the Bengali culture, history and we people who had to leave our states only because things are not better off in our homelands.

Bangali Samiti in Hyderabad

There has been a exodus from Bangladesh and West Bengal as well as Bihar for the last 100 years or so . Writers like Jhumpa Lahiri get all the inspirations from these poor souls that left their mother land only to survive the hard years,

 

Now the times have changed and  we have some of the most prosperous families in London from out own Sylhet district , You might have come across people who talk in the sylheti dialect “ Kita Beyyy, jaiibaai neee”

 

That is a sweet one. Bengalis from Shillong do that. Then there is a prosperous Bengali community in the Chittaranjan parj in New Delhi, This place is a Bengali A class location for the last 50 years. The babus that got transferred with rise in power and position in the administrative services in the top brass of the government.

 

Well, it is Biharis who dominate the fight for the top positions in Bihar, but that is because that is their only ticket outside. Some of the costliest Durga Puajs take place in Mumbai and we have left behind the local festivals with sheer might of talent, art and influence.

 

Benaglis though I have a strong reasoning to be cynical is the fact that they don’t open restaurants and hotels wherever they go. They don’t find it a lucrative idea. They know that most of the people migrating are poor and in that way they never provide for food in the area they go.

 

Bengalis book the costliest Conference rooms and hotels in the world. Last time I visited Donald Trumps Taj Mahal outside New Jersey I found it funny that Bengalis had booked the biggest conference hall there to celebrate the communities presence there. But the food is something we always have adapted,.

 

You will find a north Indian whining about rotis in south india but the Bengali will happily eay the doas and idly that the locals despise and take the art home only to improvise. But I believe it is time we do more.
