These Dell touch pad problems

I was trying to figure out how to stop the touch pad from working when I am typing something or using some other pointing device like a mouse or a pin ball or a joy stick.

I found one site by Amit Agarwal which describes something about the control panel having it.

To turn off the touchpad when an external mouse or other pointing device is present, you can goto the Control Panel and double click the Mouse properties icon.

Click the Device Select tab and check "Disable Touch Pad when USB Pointing Device is present." The cursor will no longer move via the touchpad.

But I did not get much help from these. The DELL guys do use the Alps touch pad drivers and we need to  dig in there I believe.

I think the best think to do is go to the DELL site and download the drivers to disable them since they exist here in most of the DELL machines ( I have a company provided Latitude D610  guy ) most of them are made in assembly line production and have not been given proper care for their worth and that is what causes all these mishaps

It seems the Alps, glide stick drivers in the DELL support page are the audio drivers.  There is another page for the Synaptics drivers. I better look into that

And then the only problem is we need to restart the system and yes it works

Twitter did good job

All this while people were worried about there relatives during the terror weekend that India witnessed, it seems that the silicon valley responded well in its own stride.

Blogs were on all the time that talked about the frustrations people have over Indian intelligence, some wrote about safety measures, some wrote about the names of the people.

Some collected as much data as possible and tried to filter the genuine ones.

Some wrote about their own neighboring area and any news about those injured. Some wrote about how the Bangalore police websites being blank all the while.

All in all, I  should say , this country still relies on the individualistic approaches and there is no combined force acting out here.

Wah wah

I was searching for some Urdu poetry terminology and finally came across these from http://www.learningurdu.com/terminology.asp

Urdu Poetry

Ash'ar

(Couplet). It consists of two lines (MISRA); first line is called 'MISRA-E-OOLA' and the second is called 'MISRA-E-SANI'. Each verse embodies a single thought or subject (sing) SHE'R.

Bait
Another term for SHE'R.

Bait-Ul-Ghazal
The best SHE'R in a GHAZAL

Ghazal
(Ode). The literary meaning of the word 'GHAZAL' is to converse with beloved. It is a poem containing minimum 5 verses and maximum 25. The opening Verse of the GHAZAL is called MATLA and both hemistiches rhyme with one another. The last verse of the GHAZAL is called MAQTA which usually contains the penname of the poet. Most of Persian and Urdu writers have earned fame as GHAZAL writers. GHAZAL is the soul of Urdu literature and most popular form of Urdu poetry.

Marsiya
A poem written to commemorate the exploits of great men of Islam; usually to describe the battle fought on the plains of Karbala in Iraq by Hazarat Imam Husain and his supporters against the army of Yazid. It is usually a poem of mourning. The famous MARSIYA writers in Urdu are Mir Baberali Anis and Salamatali Dabir. Even a short poem written to mourn the death of a friend can be called MARSIYA. Lord Alfred Tennyson's poem 'In Memoriam' can rightly be called MARSIYA. The sub-parts of MARSIYA are called NOHA and SOZ which means lamentation and burning of (heart) respectively.

Masnawi
A long epic poem describing the battles fought long ago and past events. It may also contain philosophical or ethical themes. The most famous MASNAWIS are Shah-Namah of Firdosi, Masnavi-E-Roomi in Persian language and Zehar-E-Ishq in Urdu. Even epic poems of India, Mahabharata and Ramayana can be called MASNAWI.

Highway construction in Bomabay

Recently, one of my friends who came to Bangalore from New York was astonished to see people buying stuff worth 6k to 7k as their monthly shopping from a local Food World. This is not only comparable to what they as a family of four buy in the United States, it was also much more than that. She did not understand how so soon things have changed. I kept my trials and efforts to a bare minimal since I did not understand the phenomenon much over the years. It has all happened in front of my eyes.

I have seen a Tiger Woods, A Roger Federer , Sachin Tendulkars cricket career and my viewership started at the same time and now when it is time for him to retire, even I feel the same from my post near the television. I have seen them all , but how on earth could I explain to a friend who has not gone 4 yours ago to the united States that India has seen some tremendous growth in the consumer market and the American companies who till date only considered the developed countries as a playground for their businesses are having serious board room discussions as to whether they have missed their chances or not or whether they should start playing soon.

Walmart the clever guys, have already started some training classes for future retail managers. I am serious about it that once you have a good start in the Asian markets with Walmart it is a journey worth travelling.

But inspite of all these, finally when we switched on the television , I realized that not all things  are as good as you are made to feel. ( courtesy , India Today , Outlook etc ) . There has been as many 136 events or mishaps on a slippery highway outside Mumbai in the last four days, That is like one every hour.

There has been 7 deaths in the last week and that is all in the name of development. I believe small time corruption is alright as long it is a few hundred rupees, but when the broader good and projects worth crores of rupees ( nowadays they touch billions of dollars and not even rupees ) , there should be some amount of accountability . There is a dire need to stop evil people , politicians and bureaucrats from usurping all the public money. We have people in politics with 1000 of crores of rupees in their pockets.

That is not a myth anymore and there are instances when foreign banks who have tried to disclose the accounts to the public but the top brass has always stopped them from doing so. This is a astounding statement of the state of development in the nation. Actually development is happening but at a slower pace, in an un planned manner , in a whimsical nightmare.

5 minute Management course

FIVE MINUTE MANAGEMENT COURSE

Lesson 1:

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbour. Before she says a word, Bob says, 'I'll give you $800 to drop that towel.'
After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves. The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks,
'Who was that?'
'It was Bob the next door neighbour,' she replies.
'Great,' the husband says, 'did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?'

Moral of the story:
If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

Lesson 2:

A priest offered a Nun a lift. She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg. The priest nearly had an accident. After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg.
The nun said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?'
The priest removed his hand. But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again.
The nun once again said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?' The priest apologized 'Sorry sister but the flesh is weak.' Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily and went on her way.

On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. It said, 'Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory.'

Moral of the story:
If you are not well informed in your job, you might miss a great opportunity.

Lesson 3:

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out.
The Genie says, 'I'll give each of you just one wish.'
'Me first! Me first!' says the admin clerk.
'I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.' Puff! She's gone.

'Me next! Me next!' says the sales rep. 'I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.' Puff! He's gone.

'OK, you're up,' the Genie says to the manager. The manager says, 'I want those two back in the office after lunch.'

 Moral of the story:

Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 4

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing. A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, 'Can I also sit like you and do nothing?'
The eagle answered: 'Sure, why not.'
So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson 5

A turkey was chatting with a bull. 'I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree' sighed the turkey, 'but I haven't got the energy.' 'Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?' replied the bull. They're packed with nutrients.' The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree. He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story:
Bull Shit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there..

Lesson 6

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy. A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Morals of the story:
(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.
(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your     friend.(3) And when you're in deep shit, but warm and comfortable, it's best to keep     your mouth shut!

Chocolat

I watched in complete awe, The whole idea behind the movie was the exhibition of a  spirit. A spirit of a man who dared to open a Chocolaterie in a remote town in France where the local mayor and the people are not tolerant towards any excesses. The people of the town believe that indulgence is bad and that pleasure in any form is not acceptable in the house of god. Even the sins you commit by eating chocolate.

The whole idea and the imagery , the location , the sets, and the colors chosen were vivid reflections of what we go through in our lives. The content is very powerful and no wonder the movie won so many nominations and Oscars. With star power like Johnny Depp and Alred Molina, the movies goes a long way in terms of visual perfection and overall presentation.

The whole idea to present to you that the religion as a shackle on your leg can take you now where near reverence for it, rather it is the idea of tolerance that is the backbone of the idea of religion. It is the sanctity of choice that one makes in his life that is to be preserved at the alter of religion.

Well there are hundreds of books and pages that have been dedicated to the same topic and I don’t do any extra justcice to the idea . Lasse Hallstrom , who also won a Oscar for his side rolein the Cider House Rules  is the director of this movie . I believe that with time in hand he has still a long way to go and many more movies to gift to this world.

Currently some of the movies in production are Hachiko, Sammy and Dear John. Eagerly waiting forward for them.

Some reviews on the new blackberry from a friend

To start with, I didnt have to buy this phone but got it from my office. So whatever I say, will be entirely a user's experience and without any bias towards the M

factor. I will try my utmost not to whine about the cost and convey the truth, the absolute truth and only the truth, so help me God !
I have been using this model since about a year, now and I wonder Why the Hell did I accept it from my office, in the 1st place ??? What had gotten into my techy

brain that I gave up a sleek and $exy Nokia6080, for this electronic piece of brick ?
Its signal reception is horrible and so is battery  life. I have never been able to talk for more than an hour, on it, as I need to attend conference calls from home, on my

cellphone. Its so heavy that if I clip the holster to the side pocket of my jeans, I feel like I have my pocket full of big stones. Anyone who has seen the final bicyle-

practice done by Amir Khan in the movie "Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar", will know how it probably feels when you are cycling with weights tied to your ankles; well, in

my case, just move the weights up to my waist and the feel is the same !
The Bluetooth reception sucks bigtime !!! You cant take the bluetooth headset beyond a 2-metre radius without the reception going nuts or the call disconnecting. If

you use applications like Google Talk or Yahoo Messenger on it, then you need to be a Big favorite of the Gods to have a proper hang-free usage for even 15

minutes at a stretch. I have come to hate the blue-hourglass icon it shows when its busy, 'coz it  does it so often and my chatmates keep Buzzing me about why I am

late in replying; let them try to chat from this heavy@$$ junk, someday and they will know why !
One day, when I was removing it from the holster, it slipped from my hand and fell on my feet and that moment I FOUND AN ENTIRELY NEW WORLD OF

SELF_DEFENSE !!!
I realised that this set can be used not only for amrginal cellular communication but also, very effectively, as a Personal Defense Weapon (or PDW, as Heckler and

Koch prefers the acronym).
In India, we do not have usage of non-lethal weapons like Mace/pepepr-Spray or Tasers, yet. But who needs one when your handy 7100G can create an

irrecoverable consussion on your attacker's head and make him amnesiac about his past life of crime ??? You save not just your own life and property but also the

other poor fellow's soul from a lifetime involvement in crime ! isnt that worth all the pain inflicted on your cellular experiences ?
All you have to do, is practise 30 minutes, every day, on how to accurately hit this brick on a person's head within an effective range of 2 feet. It can be used as a

throwing weapon also but lack of aerodynamics can limit accuracy and the only damage inflicted, will be momentum-based impact as it is so heavy. But whats wrong

in trying, eh ?
So, all things said an done, I like thie device for the wrong reasons, as I am still trying to recover from finger and wrist injury incurred by its extremely non-ergonomic

keypad. Hyderabad is still a comparatively safe city, as far as individual crime is concerned, so I never actually got to test my self-defense theories using my

Blackberry 7100G. I hope you neevr have to use it in this way but I urge all of you to keep a piece handy. Its the same concept as a condom....better to have it and

not need it than need it but not have it.
So help you God, as I rest my case.

Books and their prices in India

We the software engineers of India.

The new age guys , we wear levis, listen to ipods all the time. 50 cents is what we like, Believe in reading Jeffrey Archer,

Also follow our own languages pretty well.

Some of us are actively supporting their mother languages.

Good, IT has really changed the way we think, but yes there is a growing trend of consumerism  in the middles class families too. WE don’t bother spending 10 rupees extra to get something better.

But when it comes to books we revert back to our own old styles. Buying it from the cheapest possible places ( some of the books are exorbitantly priced. I will not hate the books having some more pages of advertisements to make up for their prices, but average books coming at 500 + is something that I will not invest always.

Not all of us want to decorate our shelves. All we want is a good book that we have read. I don’t want a gold bound Atlas Shrugged , ( which I bought for 80 rs yesterday , in the airport road ) . Trust me I did not feel guilty about it.

I believe books should be made easier to procure. Not every body earns 50 K + so that he can shell out 2000 to 3000 a month on books. Not even they buy that often.

Either it is a problem with the mentality of the common man in India or else the prices are really exorbitant. I don’t fint he book enthusiasts buy books from Crosswords, Odyssey, Walden , lankmark any more. They would rather open up to some good library in the backyard ( which we seriously lack ) you wont believe the corruption that happens in these government institutions.  This is one aspect that needs to be revolutionized. My cousin in Canada told me about their community library which actually provides for multiple copies of many good books but there are few readers.

I felt hurt that day , she also sent me some of the pictures of computers with broad band connection for free use by the community ( back in 2001 )  the connection speeds were 256 kbps.

This has to change

How to add customized maps to your blogs

I recently did small preview of most of the happening blogs in the planet. I found the maps to be a pretty intriguing stuff.
People find out about a good restaurant and come back home only to share this information online as much as possible.
Try this website http://maps.google.com/help/maps/share/embed.html

Google own version. They seem to have all the tools to make you going.
Other than google maps, you will find sites http://www.mapdaze.com/

this one will give little bit different interface. The thing is about being different. So if that is what you have in your mind this defnitely suits.

I will starting for Hosur now. So no blogging for the rest of the day. Tomorrow. 1st of June I have kept for C programming puzzles and questions for interviews

All that crap

These are some of the promises and the dreams that people show to sell their tools online

Imagine...

  • All that stress suddenly vanishes
  • You can fire your boss and tell him where to shove it
  • Take holidays whenever you want and for as long as you want
  • Be proud of the car and house that you actually own
  • Give your children a rich, fun and fulfilling childhood ...

And now I have found  that even people on Orkut are joining these groups larger numbers

http://www.orkut.com/Community.aspx?cmm=19275886

They  are setting regular meetings online and offline. That looks odd, I actually did not think that there is so much hype about making money online when webmasters confess that it is becoming difficult for them too.

I have asked people with popular mails and blogs whether they are really make more money.  It seems not, bigger players are all having a roll with broad platforms to advertise their websites and find more and more people register to write for their under a paid source.

About MFA sites

Hi All,

I found some interesting stuff in the net. This is about the most common mistake that every blogger makes . We have a multitude of bloggers who usually do the following

It seems there are two kinds of bloggers,

1.       Who do it for passion

2.       Legal blogger, they abide by hundreds of laws and use their blogs to provide news and views about a lot of material

Now for the ones with a lot of passion , you are really the people who make blogosphere a nice place for all, but when it comes to the ones making sites ( completely MFA or the made for adsense ones ) make the following mistakes

1.       They put too much of non related content. No body ever thinks of coming back to those site, Moreover they will abhor the sites more than anything. More so if they put that one as a spam ( they can just flag it in blogger ) you must have seen the flag in  the top left corner. You can try that but you will simply harass my blog if you do it here.

2.       Misplaced ads and a complete splash of ads every where on the pages. Makes reading a lot of head ache. You will find one thing funny as to big images, which are cornered and merge almost with the ads in the page. Some of them like the chitika malls will allow you to keep random images and bigger ads, You will have some images which match this image boundaries. People out there are spending time finding out about better locations and how to fool people. That way they get more impressions on their pages.

3.       You will also find some blogs with messages like click my ads or soliciting ads for their blogs, these guys are heavily looked down upon google and they are making attempts to stop all this nuisance as much as possible.

4.       One of the most interesting ones it the links exchanges, you will find some mails, like the one I got yesterday asking you to exchange your blog with somebody else, so that you have backlink from theirs. Trust me I have already checked my Google Webmasters account and found that the goolge bot did crawl me last on the 19th of May ( today is the 29th of May ) and within this period my clicks on my page has increased manifold. Earlier, there only people who chanced upon my blog by the next blog feature, now I have visitors from all over the world. Today morning I looked at my geo ID and I found myself to be in quite a comfortable position. So this is the time when greedy bloggers and newcomers will like to exchanged their sites with mine. Please make a google webmsasters account and use it to get as much information as possible.

5.       They use keyword dense pages all to no avail. This way they will never be able to make anything out there. This guys will find a lot of clicks through out but nothing much later. Though most of the information about the web you will find the Wikipedia articles, people want to make their blogs a repository of information on line.

6.       Then there are few you will give a magnum opus to their blogs with flowery language and take pot shots at all known bloggers, they are as good as a newcomer in the industry trying to steal the limelight  where Sharukh Khan is attending  party .

7.       Don’t think that you are publishing a book. Please, that will hurt you a lot, people don’t like blogs which write all things like, I will be bringing out my sould onto this blog. I will try to make it as informative as possible. One thing I will share here is I have not been able to do much in the last few days given the work schedule I have but I have still made my blog as informative as possible. I have tried to give some information to the new comers .

8.       Well, this is the final and the most funny one. New bloggers will take upon this topic more often than not. They will write about the grand truths of blogging. You will see sites that will give you advice about all sorts of thing that are dos and donts in the blogging world. And finally my blog is one such .

See how embarrassing this could be. Let me be careful about what I chose to say here, since you may never read my blog again. I was a succesfull blogger once and google taking over blogger has left me with no option but to write a new blog, so after a lot of hassles I have finally written small tids and bits about blogging and what I know

Microsoft needs to speed up

Something they try will always be slow no matter what

https://favorites.live.com/

I tried the above one only find my feeds taking a lot of time.

Speed is one thing they  definitely need to buckle up

Abut Yelp

Yelp is one of the sites with some innovation and some critical thinking on their part. If you go there you may not see a large number of ads as expected from a site like this.

All they did was collected a bunch of serious critics,  people who will be paid to write up about anything and everything online. Some people  still try this themselves. They write huge reviews and hundreds and hundreds of them and then publish it all the time.

Yelp did just that, ego boosting for few who wrote reviews and a job for some. With this the build a huge repository of material and reviews just like a yellow pages stuff with  reviews written on their side.

It was a good idea but made entirely to get public attention and traffic. It will be a good idea in India if somebody tries it, you will find one broadband users forum in India though which has a lot of traffic incoming. Also there are sites that are maintained only to give you reviews about movies and food and restaurants

Book reviews are not yet a hit in India.

There are a sites like Epinion that just survive on opinions. How original in their idea!!

What about African nations

WE keep reading stuff like India and China the next economic giants and as the seniors will comment that every civilization has its upheavals and down falls,

So is this the end for all, It depends on what the future has in store for us. We in India have a strong disagreement with whatever is written online and in other countries. You need to come down to India and live here to find out the truth,

I will write a blog sometime in future about rupee earnings and dollar spent.

We are down to that level, almost all the services are coming to level with the American society but the quality of living is still far behind,

Think of the psychological mentorship that happens in any western developed country to fight stress and teenage problems we are nowhere near to that kind of luxury of life, we still at the materials level

Go to any developed country and you will see miles and miles of road which area well maintained and constructed. Directions, maps and accurate road signs. The whole country has internet connection, It is provided with water and electricity.

Huge  building. Too much of concrete, paint, marbles, granite have all gone to become the cities what they are today, In terms of energy their car culture has eaten up the oil reserves to un negotiable extent. The damage is irrecoverable. The average American thinks that the life style he gets is something he deserves and out of his virtuosity without realizing the  fact that it is at the cost of 5-10 other people suffering in a third world country.

When Bush says Indians have started to eat more food he means that Indians have started to not starve , since the way he puts it, it seems as if he is blaming us of gluttony. I just read this article about Ghana already clearing off the debts of IMF and IMF now standing at 16 billion only. African nations are coming up to terms with developing infrastructure and better education. IMF is thinking about reducing their staff  because of lack of work. Hundreds of people surviving on paper work will get unemployed. All this due to poor nations working hard day and night only to strive for better quality of life

Some one is right

The same HR who talked about Rention of his company employees last-week, is now talking about lay-off's/pink slips and thinks like that…. how to digest this.

There is nothing in our hands we just move along with the tide… Either "Retention or Layoff". We as an employee just are at the recieving end . And it is a materialistic Business World where only money has value, and we all are here to do business.

No body to be blamed, it the due course of time which sets things to be prioritized.

Bottom-line of any business is to keep the share holders happy, irrespective of the market scenario.

At the good times, when things are going so good, the management talks about  "Hires/gives retention bonus to its Employees/grants Joining bonuses and things like that" versus at the tough times "lay-off's/Head-count reduction/No recruitment/Requirement freeze/recession/pink slip/cost cutting".

so no blame game here…

how to accept the fact and prepare for this.

  • first and foremost stop your shopping , rather spending time just by shopping during weekends.
  • have a financial plan, have a work-out how long can you stretch if there is a job-cut for you… do you know , we all have lot of financial commitments[home-loan/car-loan/personal loan/credit-card balance/monthly expenses] for every month, open an xls sheet, and plan right now.
  • stop or post-pone your vacation plan till you are so comfortable on your financial status.
  • think about your parallel money making concepts, like part-time job if possible and thinks like that, plan , at least 'sow these seeds in your mind' which will guide you.
  • Based on your "personal balance-sheet", work out on the areas where you can undergo cost-cutting.
