Formatting tips for bloggers

Though I am pretty much a novice, but there are some tips that I would like to provide to all.

If you are using the mail to blog feature, the best thing to do will be to send the mails from gmail

You will find that some of the blogs that I have written are much better to look at and the indenting and all are fine. What I did was send those from gmail account.  

 

Well, one more thing, this blog is getting featured in a number of places for C and C++ puzzles. I am now in a dilemma as to pursue my own interests or put in C and C++ puzzles in it.

This is a tough decision for me since this blog has been a brainchild of mine and my source of constant devotion for the last 45 days or so

Widgets for blogs

I never knew that the number of widgets have gone so high ( i do remember that in the last blog that I had written a year back there used to widgets that could actually choose a new wikipedia topic everytime and put it there in your blog.
So that was nice.

But now it seems that they increased the total number of widgets available to such a huge number that people are voting for the top 50 of them. I thought let me take a closer look,

Has more than 58 thousand widgets in its gallery, Some of them are pretty funny like it will randomly choose a babys name ( something new ) to your blog and if you are not getting any traffic due to the sadness that your blog exudes, I believe that you will definitely make more traffic with baby names.

There are hundreds of sites that keep a listing of baby names but nothing like a small widget that keeps that randomness alive.

There is something call flixn ( now this is serious stuff ) trust me, this will keep your webcam streaming directly into your blog, Can you believe it the number of things that these guys will do.

it seems that there are serious bloggers who will sit around their laptops all day doing nothing but showing themselves typing ( I think even if they get speeds taht Bruce Almighty had , they wont stop blogging )
It is like a let out for many people. Publishing was never easier.

Look at me , typing all ways from my outlook . I believe publishing anything online is now made a whole of lot fun business.
I will try some new gadgets this year,

widgets that link you to some of your favorite games, online, widgets that bring up a new jigsaw puzzle everyday. But I wont go to the extent of putting everything out there just for fun. Since I believe in serious blogging.

No matter how many blogs and blog hosting services you have out there nothing beats google in terms of searching anything for you,. Look at

I typed adsense just to find out the number of blogs out there writing about adsense and this is the report i get Results 1 - 10 of about 7,488,541

Well, people say that there will 1.4 blog per second being added everyday . That means about 130000 per day and you will have one million in about a week. Among this many start off well, make it 500 clicks a month and a handful of them stay alive till the end to become what you call a successful blog.

It is a long and tiring journey and the philosophy involved in it something that soothes me a lot .
I wanted to move into bloggers psychology as a subject and do some masters course in it. I am trying to find places to do so .If you have any idea please let me know.

Blog templates

Found this one, which is just too good.
There are hundreds of blog templates here. I dont go or migrate to the new templates because I am pretty comfortable with the current strcuture.

I also joined stumble upon . Just trying stuff, that people say. Make sure you have a picture to attract people to pages you stumbles upon. You dont directly upload your pages there. All you do is download the plugin for firefox 3 or for IE 7 and then you put a like it click for your own site. That is the only way out it seems.
Stumble upon has 5000000 plus members as of now, so that tells about the exposure you can get if you are doing things correct. And that is write stuff that is new and refreshing. Try to be good and the best if possible.

Also , Facebook is my next plan.I will try to make somewhat of a good profile out there and then upload my blog out there.

Depressing for the new bloggers

This dialogue with Guy Kawasaki will raise some concern among people who will want to do some serious blogging in the near future. I just read it http://thedialogs.org/2007/06/07/guy-kawasaki-on-d5/#more-19

And found it pretty depressing.

Try http://www.worddisplay.com for any new ideas you have. But you will need tons of money is what I hate. I don’t have it. And I am running out of ideas too.

So what say , I give it up and try other vistas.

 

Yes people out there , the latest news doing the rounds is that the social networking sites are raking in more money than any other thing online.  All the top website earners are basically making people  meet in their website and they slowly grow from there. Jumla, Drupal all are gaining grounds on the same base. They are heavily relying on site development with the purpose of making people meet.

 

I am sure if you are the owner of adultfriendfinder, you will be earning zillions if some affiliate is ready to advertise with you , Adsense as a policy will not.

This web page actually asks people to write up small genuine stuff and that way get volumes of blogs every month,

They have small incentives like a 10 dollar award for the best bloggers . All you will find are small jokes and anecdotes. Mostly from people who have cut and pasted them from the daily forwards that they receive. Wow that hits a point somewhere.

 

You do get a lot of forwards , don’t you . That is like a new culture that is beaming. Some people have the only interesting thing let in their lives being their inbox. All their excitement and anxiety starts and ends with the mail box full of forwards. Some of them mind it are really good. But seeing all forwards and keeping yourself busy virtually never gives you the opportunity to do it yourselves guys, For you it might look that the guy sitting in Europe or US might be having a better teenage or youth that you are but then he feels the same about you too.

swathmore student links net first blog

The words in the topic are the exact ones I used to search about the first ever blog.

It was called the links.net. Though I could not get any trace about it in the first attempt. I had to dive deep to bring out information about it. Justin Hall the Swathmore student started it all back in 1994, 11 years after I was born and now I am 25 . In these 14 years blog has come a long way , it has reached a total follower strength of 100 million now.

 

I though have some reservations about the number of blogs churned out by the spammers. Since they have all sorts of automated way of doing it, they must be raking in zillions of pages out of nothing. No content , nothing to rely upon , just a blog for the purpose of attracting people and adsense.

 

Some claim that Dave Winer was the one to do so , though his claim to fame goes back to 1997. This guy , the author of RSS ( really simple syndication )  is a research fellow in Harvard. He is still in Harvard doing research ,

 

Blogging it seems guys is pretty serious business. Because the third person who is occasionally linked with the origin of blogging is Jorn Barger.

He had  made one of the first programmable computers called the Minivac ( something you read in you beginning years in school ) . I remember it . Well he is supposed to have also coined the term Blog, which was later coined  by Peter Merholz.

Jorn Barger is the owner of the Robot Wisdom .  This is one of the ancient blog of our times. Some of you were not born when it started.

What more can I say , the last blog pretty much says it, People are using hundreds of tools and there are places online which are selling stuff that actually lets you read the current trends and optimize your work. My question is if every body becomes successful then whom do you play yourself against. This is utopian idea. I am currently going  number with each thing I type because I have read the whole article in this page.

Genres of blogs

Well, Blogs have been classified under a lot of genres as of now,

 

Political blogs, travelers blog, There is a Discovery TLC program I think which is called travelers diary, I  am sure with internet connectivity slowly we will be having travelers blog in the near future.

 

I came across this interesting web site called the gawker , it is all about gossip blog. It has media gossip and stuff like that. It might not be of interest for the Indian audience. Our quality of gossips has not reached the kind the Americans do. Be it their relationships with Hugo Chavez or the drama that continues for a whole year before the Presidential elections.  

 

In India currently the blogging is mainly cut down to C/C++ puzzles, ramblings of the software guys, sarcasm about the Indian service industry , population explosion and the lack of girls in society ,

Someday I will move into serious blogging and will do the same that is what we grow up with, With us the political scenario matters absolutely nothing for the educated individuals and for those for whom it matters they don’t even bother about coming online once a month.

 

Though there are people who are smart and write a lot . Some of them like Domain Maximum , Search for him in  google, It was written by Sidin who is a IIMA graduate. He started blogging even before he wrote his CAT exams. People have been following his growth since then. This guy is a gem of a blogger and we need more like this. Talent in this country is lost in feeding the American corporate and the pressure of being born as a Indian in this rat race takes its toll. The result being the lack of interest in creativity. Renaissance will come but after some mote years. Till then lets try our share through this skip a  meal and write a quick blog sessions.

Another term doing the rounds in the Net world is Virtual Real Estate. I remember  in one of the older posts I had written something about the HyperVRE stuff . This software will generate hundreds and hundreds of content rich sites over night and adds them to your root.

The site also has a lot of stuff related to auto generation of pages which will keep you safe from being marked as duplicate content by google.  There is a tool from google which actually marks which page was original and which was not for data generated from articles around the web. So if you have some idea about pulling out articles using a webreaper and then use scripts with some AI to generate bunch of pages you might land in trouble.

The Black Hat policy from Google is out there to bring the unlawful to rest.

 

About article miners

There are couple of sites that I have found that actually will generate any article given a keyword,

This  process is called Google arbitraging which is some thing that google has been trying to vehemently control.

 

What happens is you get a ad words account and then figure out some of the keywords and what people are bidding one and there is a chance that you might land upon some of the high paying keywords. It is understood that you will be able to write something on your own ( mind it that it is always best to be creative and have complete ownership over whatever you are writing ) . But the article  miners will be able generate the articles from a huge database that they have kept around them ,

 

For the site that I am talking about call the keyword elite has a miner with 250K  + articles and still growing. These guys also run a software that will give you the top words list. I believe that will time you will be able to get a webpage with a huge following and a lot of content that will generate enough visitors at least.  They will not stay there in your site if irrelevant stuff is included but some people are riding that path too.

 

Always believe in this universal truth that you cannot keep something lasting with weak grounds. You need to have the power to sell but the thing you can sell should have the power to be wanted a second time, and only then you become a successful man .

I feel sad at the way it is crawling

After having tried all day to get some user count increase on my blog I am now frustrated. Yes people told me that dont expect your blog to fly too soon or over night but I am not even seeing some mild increase in the rates. Must be the content is too boring. Yes , making money especially if some body else is doing it making you as one of the viewers and a part of his experience does not help I believe.

Well some more of the tips and tricks that I covered up today are meta tags, Try reading about them. Try increasing the number of meta tag keywords for your blogs to something that is relevant and gets people coming to your webpage come again and again.

Try and believe in this policy always that you cannot make money with evil means and even if you do that the money does not stay with you for long.
I wish I had the same typing speed as Bruce Almighty had when he was answering thousands of messages and thousands of prayers online. I could have churned out so many more blogs every day

I think this one is really cool. With so many things online you can actually spend hundreds of hours figuring out how smart people have become. Now I came to know of this site that will add your blog to 40 different search engines, that helps a lot.

Submitexpress.com , just unbelievable as to the number of smart people sitting there with hundreds of ideas. So if you are thinking about something online, you better be fast or else you will be thrown right behind in this fast flowing internet industry with everybody trying to ride on cheap success. It really takes time. You cannot just build it in days. I have been trying heart and soul on this for the last few days and will keep trying out stuff that is online only to let you know as to what is good and what is not

I have been trying to make my blog look as professional it can. With the time I have with loads of office work today is just one of those Sundays when I have been able to do some serious blogging work.

I have just added it and thought that you might be interested. I have also added my blog into technorati.com. Once you have made the account to get your blogs ownership in technorati you need to claim it, Click on the Blogs tab in the technorati home page and then go to the bottom to add it.

I am trying to gather all the information on how to get your blog noticed. Since I find it a mere waste of time writing something that is so relevant to todays date and finding no readers,

Trust me with google spending more time trying to figure out what people might be using to fool their SEO algos they have already thought of lot things that you may not even imagine , so no fooling around. I was a blogger earlier and without any motive to make money out of it or to become popular but that blog was popular in itself. So now that I have started again, I already have posted more than 20 blogs in the last 20 days, I need to increase the flow with so much of research going on in my mind I just wanted to share this everybody . A few months back I had tried to do a blog called "From toads to frogs"

You might have heard of the term "from frogs to princes" , well if I could make myself become a frog I thought of it as a achievement. It was a fitness blog solely aimed at motivating myself and in the process generate a lifestyle blog

What about site maps

Though you will find a lot of data about how to get your sitemaps to google webmasters toolset I found it difficult to go through all the jargon . IN simple terms the google sitemap generator which is a python script will actually list a xml file with all the urls that are linked in your site.

For blogger users though you will not need any such interface , you can just add the atom.xml after your blogs adress to give to google. That will be it.

Sitemaps are not the only way to get the google bot to look into your blog there are other ways to do it too, There is a google addurl page that will add your blog address to your url to the list that their google bot will crawl. The astonishing piece of data is that no search engine has the index of more than 16% of the total internet , which means that there is so much more data lying around than we know.
